Bespoke Nature

The residential complex for hospitality was studied in a plot on the outskirts of Andros Island. The initial goal was to maximize the habitable area and the view towards the sea, while respecting the environment and landscape. In order to double the exploitable surface, defined by the legislation, and to integrate the built-up area into the plot, three small “Cave Houses” are proposed, following the steep slope of the ground, towards the road, and two above-ground houses in the highest part of it. A certain distance is maintained between the houses, thus, privacy is achieved. Main feature of the Cave Houses is the patio “cour anglaise” which connects the main area with the basement and allows natural light to penetrate inside. Hence, the basement could acquire space of primary use. The rest of the dwellings are organized mainly on the ground floor and extend to large outdoor spaces, sheltered by wooden canopies and wooden sliding shutters, similar to those of the windows. As a result, the boundaries of indoor and outdoor space blur, amplifying the habitable area both visually and spatially. In the above-ground houses, basements become spaces of primary use through “cour anglaise”, also.

Σε ένα αγροτεμάχιο εκτός σχεδίου και εκτός ορίων οικισμού, στο νησί της Άνδρου, μελετήθηκε συγκρότημα κατοικιών για τουριστική χρήση. Zητούμενο υπήρξε η εξασφάλιση της μέγιστης δυνατής δόμησης και της θέας, με γνώμονα πάντα τον σεβασμό στο περιβάλλον και την εναρμόνιση με το τοπίο. Προκειμένου να διπλασιαστεί η ωφέλιμη επιφάνεια που ορίζεται από την Νομοθεσία και να ενταχθεί ομαλά στο οικόπεδο, προτείνεται η χωροθέτηση τριών μικρών υπόσκαφων κατοικιών στο χαμηλότερο τμήμα του, ακολουθώντας αυστηρά την έντονη κλίση του εδάφους, και δύο υπέργειων κατοικιών στο ψηλότερο. Επίσης, εξασφαλίζεται ικανοποιητική απόσταση μεταξύ των κατοικιών προκειμένου να υπάρχει ιδιωτικότητα. Κύριο χαρακτηριστικό των υπόσκαφων είναι το αίθριο "cour anglaise" που συνδέει τον κύριο χώρο με το υπόγειο και επιτρέπει στο φυσικό φως να εισχωρήσει στο εσωτερικό. Ως εκ τούτου, το υπόγειο γίνεται χώρος κύριας χρήσης. Οι υπόλοιπες κατοικίες οργανώνονται κυρίως στο ισόγειο και επεκτείνονται σε μεγάλους εξωτερικούς χώρους, που προστατεύονται από ξύλινα στέγαστρα και ξύλινα συρόμενα παντζούρια, παρόμοια με αυτά των παραθύρων. Ως αποτέλεσμα, δεν είναι αντιληπτά τα όρια εσωτερικού και εξωτερικού χώρου, και διευρύνονται τα όρια της κατοίκισης. Στις υπέργειες κατοικίες, τα υπόγεια γίνονται χώροι κύριας χρήσης μέσω των "cour anglaise".
