Representation of the European Commission

The project included renovating the main entrance of the building of the European Commission in Athens and the Conference Room in the basement. The Lobby should meet the immersive safety issues, so a restricted monitored area is designed together with a private room for security stuff. On the other hand, the new Conference room should be able to accommodate not less than 70 people and meet the state-of-art requirements. The features that defined the final design are a total net height of 2,65 m, four large beams across the hall, which reduce the height to 2,25 m, two large columns centrally and complete absence of a daylight. Hence, an inclined wall is constructed longitudinally, and it folds, creating a suspended ceiling which covers almost the entire room, interrupted only by the structural beams, and provides adequate artificial lighting to the meeting table. Painting the rest of the walls and ceilings same color as the floor highlights the main wall-ceiling construction and amplifies the space giving the illusion it is higher, yet homogenous. The conference table is designed as a modular furniture of 16 folding pieces, allowing various configurations. The project combines new, high quality and environmentally friendly materials.

Το έργο αφορά στην ανακαίνιση της κύριας εισόδου του κτιρίου της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής στην Αθήνα και της υπόγειας Αίθουσας Συνεδριάσεων. Στο νέο λόμπι, λόγω αυξημένων απαιτήσεων ασφαλείας, σχεδιάζεται ελεγχόμενος προθάλαμος εισόδου και μαζί το κλειστό δωμάτιο για το προσωπικό ασφαλείας. Έπειτα, ο νέος Συνεδριακός χώρος όφειλε να φιλοξενεί πλέον μέχρι και 70 άτομα και να καλύπτει σύγχρονες προδιαγραφές λειτουργίας. Το μέγιστο καθαρό ύψος στα 2,65 μ., τα τέσσερα μεγάλα δοκάρια που διατρέχουν τον χώρο μειώνοντας το ύψος στα 2,25 μ., δύο μεγάλα ελεύθερα υποστυλώματα και η πλήρης απουσία φυσικού φωτισμού είναι τα χαρακτηριστικά που καθόρισαν τον σχεδιασμό του. Ως εκ τούτου, κατασκευάστηκε ένα υπό κλίση πέτασμα από OSB κατά μήκος του χώρου μέχρι την οροφή και αναδιπλώθηκε δημιουργώντας το βασικό κατέβασμα ψευδοροφής, το οποίο διακόπτεται μόνο από τα δοκάρια και παρέχει τον απαιτούμενο τεχνητό φωτισμό στο τραπέζι συνεδριάσεων. Ο χρωματισμός των υπόλοιπων τοίχων και της οροφής ίδιο χρώμα με το δάπεδο δημιουργεί ομοιογενή εικόνα και αναδεικνύει την κύρια κατασκευή τοίχου-οροφής, η οποία διευρύνει οπτικά τον χώρο δίνοντας την ψευδαίσθηση ότι είναι υψηλότερος. Το τραπέζι των συνεδριάσεων αποτελείται από 16 αναδιπλούμενα τεμάχια, επιτρέποντας διαφορετικούς σχηματισμούς και δίνοντας ευελιξία στον χώρο. Στο έργο χρησιμοποιήθηκαν νέα, υψηλής ποιότητας και φιλικά προς το περιβάλλον υλικά.
